Enough food. A regular income. Why in Sahel region each year 9 million people are regularly without these basics Depending on the climate, the prices evolution, the protracted conflicts... this number can reach 20 million! The global Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement in the Sahel sub-region is very active and works to fight against food insecurity by giving the right support to people to help themselves out of crises and out of poverty. At British Red Cross we support our sister Sahelian Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies to build their capacity and understanding of complex, acute or chronic food insecurity, identifying evidence based solutions and relevant Food Security and Livelihoods interventions. We are committed to contribute to enable them to become a credible and effective actor in the food security and livelihoods sector, able to reach, empower and advocate with and on behalf of the most food insecure populations.

Do you want to be part of this team Do you want to contribute to build local capacities to enable more locally-led response British Red Cross is looking for a Sahel Food Security, Nutrition and Livelihoods (FSNL) Delegate, to be based in Senegal with a regional role through the Sahel sub-region (10 countries). The FSNL delegate will manage a Livelihoods preparedness programme and will provide both distance and in-country technical support to national society partners. They will report to the BRC Sahel Representative and will be supported by the technical advisory team based in London. In the field, they will work in close collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross/Red Crescent societies (IFRC), the IFRC Livelihoods Resource Centre and the Sahel + Group (which is made up of the 10 Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies within the Sahel sub-region).

Key objectives within the overall purpose of the post will be: 1. Capacity building component (50%): in partnership with the Livelihoods Resource Centre: to contribute to build a pool of FSL technical experts within National Societies of the Sahel sub-region who can further support FSL programming responding to quality standards and FSL guidelines. 2. Knowledge management component to (25%): ensure that learning and best practices are shared within the Movement to inform future programming. 3. Advocacy and positioning component (10%): support the Sahel+ Group to play their auxiliary role to public authorities by feeding and influencing FSL transformative policies and actions at national and regional levels. This component of the role will be implemented primarily by the FSL advocacy officer, who may be line managed by this post. 4. Response and resilience programming (15%): support IFRC Sahel Cluster and Sahel+ Group to adopt a more predictable, sustained and forward-thinking resilience-building strategy to address chronic and cyclical food security, nutrition and livelihoods needs. This includes supporting IFRC emergency appeals within the region as they arise

Both fluency in French and English is required.
