Position Title : Project assistant

Duty Station : Dakar, Senegal

Type of appointment : Special Short Term, 6 months with possibility of extension

Context:

As part of the “Africa Regional Migration Programme” funded by the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM) of the United States Department of State, the IOM Regional Office for West and Central Africa based in Dakar, Senegal, is hiring a Project Assistant.

Building on the previous PRM program on the Africa Mixed Migration and Protection of Vulnerable Migrants in West Africa, the “Africa Regional Migration Programme” aims to respond to the needs and capacity gaps through coordinated, well-planned project activities that systematically build national and regional capacity in addressing the complex migration issues in the region. The Program will address each of the core pillars of migration management, partnership, and crisis response.

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and the direct supervision of the Project coordinator, the Project Assistant will have the following responsibilities:

Core Functions / Responsibilities:
  1. Assist with the implementation of the “Africa Regional Migration Programme”;

  2. Attend meetings of the Regional Working Group on Mixed Migration;

  3. Ensure liaison with regional partners, especially with UNODC, UNICEF, ILO, OHCHR,UNHCR, DRC, and Save the Children;

  4. Write regular project activity and donor reports in English, and support in the review of country office reports in line with technical and donor requirements;

  5. Support with the monitoring and evaluation of projects,

  6. Update the project database regularly;

  7. Coordinate and provide logistic support in conjunction with internal and external meetings/workshops/training among the different components of the project;

  8. Assist with the supervision of the project related administrative tasks;

  9. Be responsible for proper documentation, review, filing, handling and archiving of project documents, related documents, and communication and make recommendations to improve filing and documentation;

  10. Support visibility and communication activities related to the project;

  11. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.



Required qualifications and experiences

Education


  • University degree, or equivalent, in Social Sciences, Humanities, Development or a related field from an accredited academic institution, with 3 years of relevant professional experience, or;

  • High School Diploma/Certificate, with 5 years of relevant professional experience.




Experience
  • Experience in migration-related programming and labor migration and/or protection of vulnerable migrants in West Africa;

  • Knowledge of the Gambia, Sierra Leone, and regional migration issues in the thematic area is a distinct advantage

  • Experience in the UN system or in International Organizations is a distinct advantage;

  • Extensive experience in organizing events, workshops, meetings;

  • High level of computer literacy and good knowledge of the MS Office applications;

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and French.



Languages
  • Fluency in French and working knowledge of English are required.
